Self love is one of the most talked about subjects at the moment. The fact that we have to practice self love, tells me something is wrong with out society. Don't get me wrong we should feel self-love, we should be proud of who we are. However, why should we not feel love towards ourselves to begin with? Why has society made us not feel comfortable in our own skin?
We look to the media, to celebrities, the news, and radio. Things we hear and see everyday, all day. Instead of uplifting us they betray us. They cause us to look in the mirror and think:
"I'm not good enough"
"I'm too fat."
"I don't have perfect teeth, hair ___"
"Why don't I look like her/him."
All of these negative thoughts run through our heads on a daily basis, because we are meant to believe there is a standard to be met. We need to meet some sort of bar, and if we don't then we need to change or step aside.
Now everyone is pushing the opposite:
"Uplift one another"
"blah blah blah"
We are now trying to right our wrongs. The media is cleaning up the mess that they started, correction that we started. Were trying to make up for the fact that we are/were horrible to each-other. Either we were bullied, or we did the bullying and feel guilty for it.
There should have never been a reason for someone to not love themselves to begin with.
Now I'm talking to you, yes you reading this very post. You are enough, you are beautiful, you are exactly who you were meant to be. The next time you look in the mirror I want you to repeat that.
I want you to tell yourself everyday:
"You are good enough."
"You are beautiful."
"You are exactly who you are meant to be."
"You have a purpose."
However, I don't want you to tell yourself all these things because I said so. I don't want you to do it because other people tell you that you should. I want you to tell yourself all these things because it is true. No one should have told you differently to begin with.
We need to rise up, not because it's what everyone is doing, not because it's whats popular at that time. But to really believe it, to find the truth of it. YOU ARE YOU! You're not meant to be anyone else.
Love yourself, because you are you.
