Let's face it right now with everything going on, so many of us are dealing with anxiety, stress, and depression. Those of us who already struggle with these things on a daily basis are finding it even harder to combat these feelings.

There is this large misconception that Christians don't deal with these emotional and mental struggles. If you are a Christian and you feel like you are doing something wrong because you struggle with anxiety and depression, remember your human too! The only difference between us Christians and Non-Christians is in the hope that is found in God's Word.

What Does The Bible Say About Anxiety?

"Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you." 1Peter 5:7

We need to remember that God cares for us! Just like any loving Father he doesn't want you to feel overwhelmed and anxious. He tells us to give those anxieties, and worries to him and let him take care of us. He wants us to be at peace.

"And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:7

When we entrust and cast our anxiety and worries to God, we are allowing him to give us his peace. So many times people ask "how you can be so calm and peaceful during this crazy time?" You may even feel guilty at the thought of being at peace during a hard situation. However, God's peace isn't meant to be understood, it is something that goes beyond human understanding. It is a gift he gives to us, to help us cope with this sinful world, and all the struggles it brings. It is meant to protect our hearts and minds so we don't have to struggle with our worries and anxieties.

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?" Matthew 6:25

As a mom, I struggle with having what we need. Do we have enough money for food this week? Where did this bill come from, it wasn't due till Thursday? How am I going to provide for my family?

I ask myself these types of questions constantly! I'm sure if you're a parent you do as well. I've sacrificed my own meals so my kids can eat because we don't get paid for two more days and our bank account hit in the negatives.

God tells us not to worry about such things. Don't worry about your need, he created us and will care for us. He also reminds us that these are not the only things in our lives. There are other important things such as our relationships, time, and most importantly our mission as Christians to spread His Gospel and to build a relationship with Him.

"Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? " Matthew 6:27

Worrying and being anxious does absolutely nothing! It doesn't help the situation in any way, it only makes things worse. So stop wasting your time, mental health, and sanity on worrying. Most of the time there is nothing we can do to about a situation and the only thing we can do is just give it to God and have faith that he will work it out for our good.

What can we do about our anxiety?

God has given us a way to fight back! He has equipped us with one of his strongest weapons to fight the enemy. Because let's face it, anxiety is not a battle of the flesh but of the mind, and we all know who loves to mess with our heads, the devil.

So what is this amazing weapon God has given us to fight back?

"Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God." Philippians 4:6

God has specifically told us in Philippians not to be anxious we don't need to be, but instead, to pray, petition, give thanks and ask him for help. Our greatest weapon against anxiety is prayer. So if you are not fighting on your knees in prayer to God, your anxiety is not going to go away. You can't have the peace of God if you are holding onto your anxiety and not giving it over to him.

I'm not going to lie, I struggle with my prayer life. I know it's important, I know it helps, but sometimes I just don't know what to pray, how to pray, or at the moment I just want to suffer in silence. It's not healthy I know, but I'm human and I make stupid choices sometimes.

However when I do pray, when I decide to give it to God in prayer, I ALWAYS feel so much better. Even if the anxiety is still there in the back of my mind nagging me, it is a quiet whisper instead of the loudest thing in my thoughts.

Just because you pray that one time, and it worked, doesn't mean your cured forever. You need to keep praying!

"pray continually," 1 Thessalonians 5:17

"Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour." 1 Peter 5:8

The devil is not going to stop because you prayed one time. He is constantly on the prowl, hunting, waiting, and strategizing ways to tare you down. He knows your weakness, your struggles, and what hits you the hardest. He's smart! However through prayer, we can fight back, but we have to be doing it constantly.

"For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms." Ephesians 6:12

Our battle is not of this world! We need to remember that we are fighting a spiritual battle, so we need to fight with spiritual tools. God gave us two spiritual weapons, the sword of the spirit (God's Word aka the BIBLE) and PRAYER. Use them!

If you don't know God's word, if you are not reading it, meditating on it, and praying over it then you are not fighting back. You can't beat this thing if you don't know-how. Educate yourself, know God's Word, and Pray.

That's it, that's all I have for you. God's Word is enough, you need to take the next step and fight back. We don't have to suffer from anxiety, we can make the choice to give all our worries to God, and let him take care of it. We can make the choice to not let the devil walk all over us, and fight back with prayer and God's Word!
